I’ve loved taking pictures with my compact cameras, but recently purchased a bridge camera after deciding it was time to get beyond the auto and scene modes. After a little research I contacted CHP and booked a day with Ali to get to know my new camera, understand how it all worked and hopefully take a few pictures. I was really looking forward to it, but the day far exceeded all my expectations. Ali has such a great way of explaining everything in a way I could easily understand and combined theory with practical stuff throughout the day. She had also taken the time to understand the specific camera I had purchased and supplemented the generic with Lumix-specific information where applicable. Using my own camera helped me get comfortable with it and hopefully more confident and really put things in context. Our field trip to nearby Birdland was then an ideal way to try out that theory and experiment with different settings in the constantly changing weather conditions. I was absolutely delighted with some of the images I captured with Ali’s expert help and it is already making a difference to the way I think about my photographs (those in albums and not yet taken).
It was a fabulous day and I have already recommended CHP to friends.

“I recently bought my first DSLR camera and had no idea what all the buttons meant let alone how to use it! So I enrolled in a one day course with Alison and Robin. Both Alison and Robin were very helpful and their easy going manner immediately put me at ease, they explained what all the buttons did in simple terms and showed me how to set the camera up. We went out and took lots of photos and Alison showed me how to change settings on the camera simply, whilst correcting things to make my shots so much better.
I can’t thank both Alison and Robin enough for all their patience with me and showing me how to edit my photos. I plan to go back to see them again once I have mastered the basics to learn more about different lenses and what I can achieve in the future.”

I spent a relaxing, informative, interesting, focused day at Cotswold House Photography in Bourton on the Water. Robin and Ali were warm in their welcome and their hospitality, generous in sharing their extensive knowledge of photography techniques and inspiring in their genuine passion for teaching and photography.
Having had an initial introduction and an opportunity to explore with Ali the type of photographs I enjoy taking, the current problems I am experiencing with a new camera, and a refresh of some key techniques, Ali was totally responsive, altered her plans for our day and focused entirely on my needs. A real pleasure to spend the day with Ali and to come away with renewed energy and, under her careful tuition, a real boost in knowledge and confidence. A rare self indulgent day for myself…. and I enjoyed every moment! I would highly recommend it to anyone.

We came to CHP with high expectations after a recommendation from the LCE in Cheltenham. Both Rob and Ali made us really welcome. The session far exceeded our expectations as Ali informally delivered a structured session that made sense of the camera functions. The photos that my daughter then took in the garden and surrounding village are excellent and now act as a point of reference. My daughter now has the confidence to have a go and is now taking photographs with a whole new mindset, capturing quality images that she could only have dreamed of being able to achieve before the session.

“This was the most exciting day I have had with my camera for a few years. Some of my previous photos were sometimes blurred so the instructions she gave to ensure stability were very helpful. After talking about composition and lots of other helpful advice we set off to the park where we experimented with settings. She gave me a chance to use a macro lens in the garden and now I am a convert. The afternoon found us wandering in the High Street and taking shots of people going about their day and going back to see exactly what we had captured “incognito”. A colourful, exciting, busy and happy day”.

I had a brilliant camera day with Ali and Robin. Robin worked with my friend and Ali worked with me. I found Ali’s explanations of the workings of my camera to be clear and easy to follow. Ali is an excellent teacher and communicator. I was a complete beginner so we started with a camera tutorial, then a practical session at Birdland, followed by a macro session and editing in the studio with coffee!
